This job function is allocated to the Professional Services Delivery (PSD) department within Sun Microsystems GmbH Germany.
The main focus area is datacenter Consulting for virtualization, consolidation and eco-computing. The consultant will perform an functional, technical and financial analysis of existing datacenter and has the focus on reducing costs and resource optimization. The Consultant is covering all logical/physical areas in the Datacenter which means Process, Products and People and is providing recommendations for solutions around virtualization, consolidation and eco-computing.
Long term experience as IT consultant with a deep knowledge of customer datacenter with direct contact to the IT lead/manager, project management up to CIO level is needed.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Collects and prioritizes consolidation, migration, virtualization, application architecture (SAP, Oracle...), datacenter optimization (TCO, Utility Computing), datacenter (X64, Ultrasparc and Sparc64 VI) business applications engagement requirements with the various customer stakeholders.
Build credibility as trusted advisor with a customer's executive management team by articulating a crisp understanding of their business issues and the positive impact of Sun's solutions and/or products.
Map customer business requirements to technical solutions.
Spans all layers of the business infrastructure interfaces with the accounts customer and customer executive management; to define requirements and recommend solutions. Works closely with the SMI account management teams.
Responsible for process, product, people and organizational consulting delivery within dedicated billable customer projects according to ITSM / Service Level Management and ITIL.
Performing assessments and analysis for cross Sun practices systems, storage, service and software therefore interfacing with these practices and receive support.
Trusted advisor to the customer in analyzing, optimizing and new design of IT.
Planning and accomplishment of interviews, workshops and presentation of recommendations/findings is day-to-day live as well as consulting and project management during the implementation phase of findings/quick wins.
Thorough analysis of existing datacenter based on functional, technical and financial Assessments.
Qualifications and Experience

- Very good technical understanding of how a datacenter works and in terms of
products, process, people and organization.
- Very good knowledge of virtualization and consolidation Market and available
solutions.
- Good knowledge about business processes and how to transform to IT processes.
- Good understanding of SOA, IT service management and compliance requirements.
- Broad technology know-How about server, storage, network in the UNIX area.
- Good understanding of consulting and project management methodology.
- Knowledge and/or certification in COBIT and ISO 20000 is beneficial.
- Displays high levels of energy and drive, thrives under pressure, with
strong business acumen and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- To provide pre-sales technical consultancy in the area of specialist
technology/products and provide technical assistance/input in system design
at an early stage to ensure technical viability.
- To provide coaching or mentoring to 1 or more, enterprise consultants
advising on appropriate development to ensure PSD has suitably-trained
technical consultants in the relevant product areas.
- Good team player.
- University degree in informatics and/or business administration
or at least 7 years of experience in the datacenter-environment.
- Willingness to travel regularly (within Germany) is assumed.
- Fluent in written and spoken German and English (proficiency).
