This position is for an experienced employment lawyer to reinforce the Employment & Benefits Legal Group supporting the EMEA region, with an additional focus on EMEA employee data privacy issues.
To qualify, a minimum of 7 years post qualification experience in employment law gained ideally from another multinational or possibly a major international law firm.
Your jurisdiction of qualification is not a consideration, however, you must have experience of handling a pan-European or international role. As a senior lawyer you should possess the ability to work as a strong team member although perhaps geographically disconnected from other team members.
You will be expected to travel, primarily within EMEA, so any additional European language skills will be an advantage. EMEA data privacy experience and experience with Works Councils is strongly preferred. |

The role will have a dual focus.
In the employment law focus of this position: Position will report directly to the Brussels-based Director Employment Law, assuming pan-European responsibility for employment law issues which arise in the region. This will include advising HR generalists on employee relations matters, advising HR Business partners on implementing strategic projects throughout the region, carrying out relevant acquisition due diligence; driving review of employment contracts and related documents, managing outside counsel in contentious matters and local law advice, providing guidance in dealings with works councils at country and European level, alerting HR on new legal developments EU wide, being the interface between corporate policy makers and the local HR community, partnering with Business Conduct Office to address compliance, and working with Sun’s Government Affairs group to provide input on employment law lobbying efforts.
In the remaining part of this role: Actively advise HR and management on data privacy compliance in the employment context. This will require collaboration with the US based Data Privacy lawyer (to which you will be a dotted line report), Sun's data privacy business team and country HR in EMEA. Among other things, this part of the role will require close involvement preparing relevant communications for and negotiations with country works councils as well as working with relevant local teams on data privacy registrations and intercompany agreements.
